Studio Philosophy

Characterized by warmth and focused on materiality, the laid-back spaces we create are designed to inspire effortless living. Our work is rooted in the belief that great design transcends the superficial — elevating and enhancing the way you spend your time at home. We approach design from a holistic perspective ensuring the time and investment you put in will last. We believe that a well-designed space should be both familiar and fresh, a composition of pieces and materials that reference the past and look to the future. Natural materials, warmth and patina, heirloom quality pieces, and local artisans are all cornerstones of our design that we thoughtfully weave into each of our projects.

We work with busy families and individuals who understand the impact of their surroundings. We offer a process-driven, passion-fueled design experience that centers our clients’ visions for their lives–and as a result, their home environments.

Monkhouse Studio is based in Marin County, California, and serves clients throughout the United States.

Behind the studio

PRINCIPAL DESIGNER

Katie Conway Monkhouse

Originally from the East Coast, Katie has spent the past fifteen years living in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and two young children. Katie’s work is deeply influenced by the casual approach to life that is distinctly Californian and by the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. Merging her warm, modern style with her inherent love of antiques and European aesthetic, Katie has cultivated a unique point of view that juxtaposes clean lines and balance with the patina and imperfections that come with living well.
